Participation in the community: A Smart House for our Veterans
As part of our affiliation with Carpet One we have the great privilege to participate in Building for America’s Bravest, an organization that builds smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans. The smart homes feature elements from wider hallways and showers to iPads that operate the house. Together with Mohawk, Carpet One provides the flooring and installation services for these homes. We at Contract Carpet One in Beltsville were honored to be a part of building a smart house for Sgt. Adam Keys which was completed in July of 2015! Our team installed the tile in the home. Tile's hard surface makes it easier for Sgt. Keys to get around his home. Together with Independent Carpet One in Annapolis, we installed and completed a beautiful and livable place for Sgt. Keys to be able to call home.
“On July 14th, 2010, while serving a 12-month deployment in Afghanistan, SGT Adam Keys encountered a roadside bomb. As a result of the explosion, Adam suffered a brain injury, broken bones and an infection in his blood stream that resulted in the loss of both his legs and his left arm. Since the explosion, Adam has undergone well over 100 surgeries on his path to recovery.
Adam is a fan of the New York Jets, the Philadelphia Flyers, plays guitar, and enjoys going to concerts and listening to Tom Petty.
When asked about how a smart home will impact his life Adam replied, “Getting this home will allow my family and my future family to worry less about me and allow me to be the man I am.” - Building for America’s Bravest

Other organizations we participate in:
At Contract Carpet One, we feel a strong connection to our greater Washington, D.C. and Maryland communities. We are a locally owned and operated business and like to give back in charitable ways to our fellow citizens. We are always looking for more opportunities to volunteer, sponsor or donate to great causes. Here are some of the amazing organizations we are currently involved in:
Believe in Tomorrow
Believe in Tomorrow is a children’s foundation that provides housing, hospital services and support to critically ill children. They pride themselves on unparalleled hospitality and work to create an environment where children and their families can find renewed hope and comfort.
We love supporting our athletes and are proud to work with the Terrapin Club Scholarship Fund to help fund more student athletes’ educations and expenses at the University of Maryland. This scholarship fund is made up of private donations totaling around 11 million each year. This money allows athletes to receive their scholarships, but it also allows the athletics department to invest other revenue back into their sports programs and keep UMD sports going strong.
Boys and Girls Club
The Boys and Girls club provides a safe place for children to go learn, grow and have fun with people who care about them. This organization helps match children who do not have access to adult care or supervision with volunteers that are there for them. From outings to events and even office visits, there is no shortage of opportunity at the Boys and Girls Club.
Joshua M. Freeman Foundation
The Freeman foundation was established in 2007. It is a nonprofit which honors Josh Freeman, the former chair of the Freeman foundation, who sadly passed away. The foundation honors Josh’s commitment and passion through projects he would have been proud of. They do this mainly through performances, arts and education at the Freeman Stage at Bayside, an outdoor venue for performances that attracts over 50,000 people a year.
